Consultation seeks your views on the future of your NHS

The recently published NHS white paper sets out the future long term vision for the NHS based on its founding principles of a comprehensive service available to all, free at the point of use and based on need, not ability to pay.

The white paper, Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS, sets out plans for a reformed NHS which put patients at the heart of everything, focuses on continuously improving outcomes, whilst empowering and liberating clinicians.

A consultation is now underway seeking the views of those working for the NHS in the region, patients, carers and the public, on the future vision which focuses on four main themes:

  • Improving health outcomes for patients by:
       -   preventing premature death
       -   enhancing quality of life for those with long-term conditions
       -   helping people recover from illness or injury
       -   ensuring a positive patient experience
       -   providing safe care and protection from avoidable harm.
  • Putting GP consortia in charge of commissioning services that best meet the needs of local people, supported and held to account by an independent NHS Commissioning Board.
  • Giving power to local people by involving patients, locally elected councillors, local authorities a and public health experts working alongside GP consortia to improve health outcomes and ensure that local services meet local needs.
  • Greater freedom for NHS providers so that trusts can focus on improving services and outcomes for patients and in turn create greater choice, stimulate innovation and increase productivity.
