Introduction to 'Your Health'

Welcome to the ‘your health' section of this website.  We aim to provide you with information and advice on a range of health issues, and a profile of health in the Borough.

Public health has a responsibility for monitoring health status; diagnosing and investigating health problems; informing, educating, and empowering people; creating and supporting community partnerships;  developing policies and plans; enforcing laws and regulations; linking people to needed services; assuring a competent workforce; conducting evaluations; and conducting research.

Health in Halton & St Helens is improving as our life expectancy figures are increasing year-on-year for both males and females.  The rate of people dying from heart disease and most forms of cancers are decreasing.

However, this is not the case for all people in Halton & St Helens, especially those living in deprivation.  As a result, the health of the population of Halton & St Helens is below average compared to England and Wales as a whole.

We can improve this, and we aim to encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle to help improve health and tackle inequalities in health. Leading a healthy lifestyle means eating healthily, drinking sensible amounts of alcohol, taking exercise, quitting smoking and leading a healthy and safe sex life.
